Post Script: Pride for our Nation and Our City

On Tuesday, November 4th, as the polls closed in California the national media called the election for Obama just as I had finished a long day of getting out the vote and entered the Oakland Convention Center. For the rest of my life I will remember the pure jubilation and pride of this night.

As we waited for Barak Obama to give his victory speech from Chicago, we thanked the volunteers for their work. Congresswoman Barbara Lee noted that our district made more calls and gave more volunteer hours than any other in the country. The thousands of campaign workers at the center reflected the breadth and diversity of Oakland. I was never prouder to be an Oaklander and an American.
